Working at Braven
During my time at Braven I had the opportunity to explore new industries including gaming and automotive, as well as expand and refine our existing lines of outdoor, rugged speakers and headphones.
My role as the Lead Industrial Designer allowed me to be responsible for the majority of the product development process from research to ideation, all the way to high-fidelity prototypes.
The Boombox
The BRV-XXL is Braven’s modern version of the classic boombox. With stunning sound quality and advanced rugged features it quickly became a huge hit with our target customer. This project explores the next generation of the popular BRV-XXL and in what ways the form and function could be pushed to new territories.
As the lead industrial designer on this project, it was my responsibility to research design trends in regard to form and function with a variety of audio, automotive, technology, outdoor gear, and many other product areas. It was a compilation of these form factors and features that influenced the overall direction of the next generation of the BRV-XXL.
Introducing the BRV XXL
Introducing the new Braven BRV-XXL - the next generation of the boombox. Not only is this an evolution of the traditional boombox form, but it’s an evolution of functionality as well. The BRV-XXL is IPX5 water/dirt/sand resistant, and includes several awesome easter-egg type features like a bottle opener.
As a designer, it was very exciting to see one of my products truly come to life. Taking it from research to concept, and then all the way to the store shelf was extremely satisfying. Working across both physical and digital mediums has reinforced the belief in my mind that true user experience design is not bound by software or hardware, but exists everywhere.
